We are here to make people feel good about themselves.
We really have to feel like we are a day maker for the guest
You’ve made my day.
How great is that when you hear those words from your guest.
Hello and welcome to the Day Maker podcast.
I’m David Dolce. Um, today we will be interviewing Liz.
Liz, welcome to the show. Hi. How you doing today?
I’m good. Really excited.
Good, good. So you are currently enrolled at Tricoci?
Yes. And what program are you in? Esthetics
Program. Awesome.
So I’m gonna ask you a question.
I’m asking all the students. Okay.
It’s very important question. Why the beauty industry?
Well, the beauty industry is something so special
because the way you feel outside is how you feel
inside, right?
So if you feel beautiful outside,
you’re gonna feel good about yourself internally.
So that’s why
Oh, and it’s true. It’s
good. Yeah. Like did you have an experience like
that in your life, right?
Yes. You got service done somewhere
and you’re like, this feels good.
Yes. That’s how it was for me.
Like, I’m like, wait, I like the way this feels.
I like this environment.
I like all these people around here. Yeah.
I can’t concentrate at a four year university.
I just know and now I get to be, you know, my creative self.
Yes. Do you consider yourself to be a creative person?
Yes. I just felt like I wasn’t really tapping into my
creative potential and so I started the aesthetics program.
I love it. So did you look at any other schools
before Tricoci University? So
I did glance over some schools,
but I kept, every time I was looking online
or scrolling, everyone Tricoci kept popping up
and everyone just kept speaking so highly.
So I decided to look more into it.
And the crazy story was of how like I decided
to join the aesthetic program.
Yeah. You were telling me about that
before we started, uh, taping.
Yes. So tell us a little bit about your journey
and why you chose Tricoci.
Okay. So I currently work at a med spa
and at the time I’ve, I was only a body sculptor
and we were really looking to bring in an esthetician
and a skin specialist.
And at the time my sister and I already had a candidate,
but we didn’t really see her reliable.
So then we decided to push
and decided to take into consideration one
of us going back to school.
And at the time it was like it was more convenient for me
to go back to school since she is a nurse practitioner.
Mm-hmm. So it was on a Tuesday, we looked at programs online
and I called Tricoci, it was quick answer right away.
Spoke with one of the administrative staffs
and they directed me.
They’re like, we actually have orientation coming
up on Thursday.
I was like, how quickly were you looking to start?
And I was like, as soon as possible.
And that’s when she’s like, well I’ve actually had somebody
withdraw from the program that starts this Monday.
And he was like, are you willing to start that soon?
And I was like, yeah. I’m like, sure, I’ll start Monday.
Wow. And yeah, it was all within a course of a week
that I decided to start school
and start at the following week.
I love it. I can tell you have that personality. Yeah.
I did admissions and you got, people are like, no, no,
I need some time to prepare.
And then you get the, I’m ready, I’m ready to go right now.
That’s you. Yeah. How’s it working with your sister?
Do you guys have conflict?
Do you guys get along really well?
So it’s fun. Um, definitely that sibling, um,
arguments can happen from time to time.
Yeah. I don’t think I can work with my brother, but
It’s fun. We’ve
actually learned to like learn to disagree.
Awesome. That’s important.
So it’s like when we tend to pull awake,
when we’re both frustrated, we’re like, okay,
we’ll give some time to cool down
and then reassess the situation and talk over. Mm-hmm.
So I know you do body sculpting. Mm-hmm.
You mentioned that before. Yes. What is that? So
It’s ultimately a massage that contours your body,
helps detox your body, break down any toxins in your body
by releasing them via sweat, urine, or poop.
So it’s pretty cool. It’s ultimately something
that’s beneficial for our health.
But a lot of people don’t know.
They think it’s just aesthetics.
And that’s why I also fell in love with estheticians
because everybody thinks, oh, facials is just to look good
or to reduce wrinkles.
But no, it’s much more we’re taking care of our skin,
making it healthy from all this environmental exposure with,
you know, contamination that we
currently face on a daily basis.
It’s true, like I went to cosmetology
and I’ve learned so much
because I was in school with estheticians
and then teaching with Tricoci so long
and like learning how in depth skincare is
and all the different treatments.
Yes. I was talking earlier like that nano infusion,
it just makes me feel so young and vibrant.
Oh my god. Yes. Changed my whole skincare routine.
I used to just whatever in the shower
and now like I have a whole routine and I feel better.
Yeah. I feel younger and that’s important.
It’s, yeah, it, it really is.
I actually did a nano last week
’cause we have a special going on.
Yes. At your coaching for Valentine’s Day.
So you get a nano and you get % off of nano.
And the client, it was her first facial ever.
So she had never gotten a facial,
but her sister goes to the Tricoci Spa
and she was like, oh, she recommended
to just come here and try it out.
Oh cool. Yeah. So I was like, oh that’s really cool.
And then she told me never have
I ever done anything to my skin.
And I was like, okay. So I’m like, I think a
nano infusion would be perfect.
Yes. Especially during the winter. Hydrate that skin.
So why I think I know what it is. Yes.
But explain it to me a little bit better.
So nano infusion you have like,
it’s a silicone or metal needle. Right.
So it’s needleless actually. Okay.
Um, it’s a, a plastic tip that helps just push in the serum
into the skin, penetrating it deeper than
with just applying it with our hands.
Perfect. So that helps with micro-pigmentation,
right. Hydration, all that
Good stuff. Hydration,
uneven texture.
It will even out the texture of the skin as well.
Any enlarged pores, it will help as well.
So it has so many benefits.
That’s why I think I look so good. Yeah.
When I’m done with it, everybody
Looks so glowy and hydrated. I love it.
So you’re working. Yes.
And you go to school Monday through Friday, nine to five,
you’re full time, right?
Yes. How do you, how do you balance all of that? Oh,
It, it gets crazy.
Oh, I bet It gets a little crazy.
But overall I try to prioritize my academics first.
So when I’m at school I really try
to focus on getting everything done at school.
So I, at home I have the minimal work to do.
So just basically studying and reviewing things.
But because I’m a mom too, so
Oh my god. Yeah.
You got a lot on your plate.
Yeah. So it’s like I have to go home as well
and help with assignments for their school. So
What’s that look like? Like what’s
a day for you?
So typically
after school if they don’t have any
activities we’ll go home.
I’ll make dinner and then we’ll all set up at the dinner
table after we’re done.
And literally they’re on their Chromebooks, I’m on my tablet
and we’re just bouncing off stuff of each other,
like questions that they may have
or I’m just sharing with them like, Hey,
did you know this about your skin?
Mm-hmm. So it’s pretty cool
’cause even my kids have gotten into skincare now.
That’s really cool. Yeah.
See they’re gonna be inspired.
My mom did hair so I always had that there.
Oh that’s, remember my mom rapping perms in the kitchen on
my grandma and I’m like, I think I’m gonna do hair.
I won’t be like my mom. That’s
Awesome.
Yeah, it was literally just giving my son some
extractions this past this weekend.
’cause he’s a teenage boy. Ugh. You gotta love the hormones.
Love. Yeah. For real. For real. And
He’s a sports boy so that sweat doesn’t help.
No, it doesn’t. I just did that.
So my husband’s got two kids Yeah.
That live in Mexico that come visit
with us all summer for winter break.
And I was like, oh no, you’re . I see these blackheads.
So I sent them home with some daily exfo in.
I showed ’em how to take care of their skin. Yeah.
We have like when we’re in this industry,
we gotta make sure the people around us
look real good too. Yeah.
Because they represent what we’re doing.
Yep, exactly. Ultimately. So that’s, they
Really do. Um,
so you go to Elgin, I’m really familiar with Elgin. Yes.
That campus and the educators there.
Is there anybody there that like really inspired you there?
Oh, you already know. Who
Are you gonna say Ms. Val. Ms.
Val. She
Is the real MVP.
I love her. She knows her stuff.
She does when it comes to aesthetics and even cosmetology.
’cause I don’t know if you’re aware, but she does.
She’s also a licensed cosmetologist.
Yeah, totally. We did gt our teacher training program
together was years now this year when we started.
And uh, yeah, she was my best friend
through all of it. That’s awesome.
An awesome person. Yeah, she is.
I, like I said, I feel like the esthetician program is
so amazing with her teaching it.
She’s really in depth.
She focuses on a lot of things
but is always making sure that we know our stuff
to provide the proper skincare for people.
That makes me so happy. We love you Miss Vale. If you’re
Listening out there, we’ll you Miss Vale.
I’m gonna miss her so much.
I love it. Um,
so this is a good one. ’cause when you graduate
Tomorrow, That is insane. Yes.
That Is insane.
So especially for you, if you can go back to the beginning
of this program, what would you do differently?
Honestly, nothing.
Because I felt like in this program I really pushed myself
to be out there and take so many advantages of
what the program had to offer.
I love that. For instance,
miss Jen does the um, style squat.
Yep. And I never really joined the Style Squad,
but I participated in a lot of the events.
So we did Nightmare in Chicago Street. I was
Gonna ask you if you did Nightmare on Chicago Street.
It was so much fun. I loved it. Loved it.
I didn’t realize how much fun.
I wouldn’t do enjoy doing makeup
and creating those looks. It was so much fun.
That’s so cool. Yeah.
I didn’t get to go this year, but I’m going. Or last year.
I’m definitely going this year I live close
So I have to go. Yeah, definitely
Go. And I love Halloween.
Yeah.
I asked Miss Jen ’cause I’m like,
I wanna continue to participate.
So I’m like, even after I graduate I will come.
I’m like, just let me know.
I love it. So here at the Day Maker podcast,
we’ve got three questions that we like to ask you.
Right. It’s about being a day maker. Yeah.
So did you ever have a moment where you realized
that you had the power to make somebody else’s day?
Yes. Like for instance,
like I mentioned last week I did a nano when she came in
and she said, oh, I’m old.
I’m wrinkly. I’ve never done a facial.
I don’t feel so great about my skin.
And after we finished that nano
and she saw her reflection on the mirror, she was like, oh,
I feel like you just revived me.
And I was just like, she’s like, I feel so great.
I’m just gonna go out and have a good day for myself.
That treatment for real, it does make you look younger.
Yeah. As an old wrinkly person. I love that treatment.
Yeah. And I’m telling that
that right there was a satisfaction to hear that.
Did you say that was her first
Facial? Facial facial experience?
Facial ever. Facial. Right.
See now you got a client for life. Yes.
How do you think she feels? How do you
think they carry that on?
Not just in the salon but out of it?
I feel like it just boosts your, your attitude,
your confidence makes you feel more positive when you,
like when you look good, you feel good.
You do. And it’s such an understatement sometimes
that we don’t realize how good that,
just feeling good on the outside can make us feel inside.
That’s the beauty about what we do.
We really make people feel good.
I just wanted a job that made people feel good
and that’s what led me here also.
Um, you got people that are bill collector is calling
you ruined people’s day.
Do you know what I mean? And then they come to the salon
and then we make their day a lot better.
Definitely. So I could tell you got the
personality, all of this.
How is all of this help you establish long lasting
relationships and help you make clients for life?
Well I, I feel like it helps
because people are starting to feel comfortable,
confident coming to you and spending an hour
or minutes once a week or once a month with you.
Mm-hmm. Just for that service
and sharing it makes ’em vulnerable to you,
but at the same time it makes it a good relationship
grow between both of you.
Yeah. So personality plays a lot
into it. Yes. Don’t you think
Definitely. You
really have to be able to speak to people,
get to know them on their level.
Yeah. They love to hear about your life.
You love to hear about their life. Yeah. Yeah. I get it.
It’s so much fun. It’s satisfying.
I was a CNA so leaving that industry
and joining this one definitely made me realize like I loved
what I did before but this is such a satisfying feeling now.
You have done so much. You are so impressive.
You took your program seriously since day one.
Like you’re like the model student. Thank
You. Yeah. I’m happy
to have you graduating tomorrow. Yes.
With your coaching name on it. Yes. Makes me proud.
So I’m actually thinking of doing a little video.
I’m gonna do my last clock out with my Tricoci uniform on
and then my first clock back in at the med spa with my
med spa uniform on.
I love it. I love it. I love it. Yes.
Well thank you so much. Thank you.
This has been a pleasure for you to be here with us.
Thank you. Please let me know if you need a recommendation.
I know Miss Val will give you a good recommendation.
Thank you. Um, because yeah, we’re proud of you.
People like you that work from the program,
from the start have no regrets on
what they did like. Yeah. Yeah.
Thank you. Yep. You’re awesome. Thank you.
Aw, thank you. You’re awesome
Guys. Definitely picked
cozy.
Such a good environment. You guys will love it.
I love it. And I didn’t pay her to say that.
You have an awesome day. Okay. Thank you. You.
