Located at 5485 East State Street in Rockford, IL just west of Interstate 90, our 9,000-square-foot Rockford beauty school and barbering school is home to an upscale beauty salon and spa, theory room, dispensary, library, wet room, lounges and classrooms – everything you need to start your career in Cosmetology, Esthetics, Barbering, Nail Technology/Manicuring or Beauty Education.

Our curriculum focuses on creating a secure foundation of the scientific building blocks for skin: its function, properties, and needs. Learn to become a Facialist, Waxing Specialist, Body Treatment Specialist, Medi-Spa Esthetician, or Make-up Artist.

This 3 day per week schedule allows our students to continue to “earn while they learn” to be a teacher. Learn to become a Cosmetology Teacher, Cosmetology Teacher with Experience*, or Esthetics Teacher.

Beauty History of Rockford, IL

Rockford-based cosmetics manufacturer ColorLab Cosmetics was launched when a local makeup artist wanted to recreate a discontinued shade of lipstick. Owner Mary Swaab has since patented her color-mixing methods, and now the company allows anyone to create private label cosmetics or custom cosmetics for a special event.

Rockford has been home to prominent players in the beauty and style industries including special effects makeup artist Shaun Smith (Face/Off, Darn of the Dead, and Chronicles of Narnia), Virgil Abloah (Louis Vuitton artistic director) and Kelly Bensimon (Elle Accessories editor).

Local startup Bearded Republic is manufacturing beard-care products including a variety of beard butters that can improve facial hair texture while moisturizing the underlying facial skin.

Beauty Events in Rockford, IL

Each summer, Rockford’s Barber/Beauty Battle gives the community a chance to compete for style titles such as the Best Fade, Best Creative Hair Style or Best Creative Makeup. More than 2,000 people attend the annual event that’s sponsored by Tricoci University and supports domestic violence awareness.

The Natural Hair Health and Beauty Expo is an annual event held at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Rockford. Participating barbers and hairstylists each create a look that a model showcases during the runway portion of the event.

Beauty is an important part of special events, and the Stateline Splendor Bridal Expo brings together local wedding vendors including hair and makeup artists. This beauty event can give you insight into the latest special event style.

Federal student aid programs (i.e. Title IV) are available for students who qualify. FAQs About Our Rockford School

The Rockford campus offers a cosmetology program, an esthetics program, and a barbering program. You can complete the 1,500-hour cosmetology program in 12 months part time or 20 months full time, the 750-hour esthetics program in six months full time or nine months part time, or the 1500-hour barbering program in 12 months full time.

Flexible scheduling is an important part of Tricoci University’s outreach. The Rockford campus offers full-time cosmetology, esthetics and barbering courses from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Cosmetology and esthetics also have part-time classes that run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Student Kits are an important part of managing your success in cosmetology. On the first day of class, eligible students will receive a Student Kit that will help you maintain success throughout your cosmetology journey. This kit includes an Apple iPad, which will help you through an e-learning process that allows for maximum access to learning materials.
