Listening to James Ryder speak at Tricoci University’s Glendale Heights campus was one of the most inspirational moments in my life at TUBC. My personal obsession with his work led me to believe that during his visit at Tricoci I’d be watching the master at work while he did makeup on our students and drooling over his technique – but to my surprise, the best part about meeting him was hearing his advice on how to make it as a makeup artist and in the film and beauty industry.
His portfolio advice was invaluable, and honestly could be used by anyone trying to break into a creative field. Myself – a digital marketer, designer, photographer, videographer, and self-proclaimed makeup junkie – was kicking myself for not bring anything to write down all of this amazing advice. Honestly, everything that he had to say was a pure gem of brilliant wisdom and obviously experience, that anyone in the fashion, hair, makeup, photography, or film industry would kill to know.
