By Alondra Wirtz, a student at Tricoci University’s Indianapolis NE campus
Hello fellow Tricoci students! I have been given the opportunity to write about my journey to become a licensed cosmetologist. But first, I would like to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Alondra Wirtz, but a lot of people call me Ali. I just recently moved to Indiana from Utah. I’m aged 22 and it took me a few years to realize what career I wanted to pursue: cosmetology!
When it came to deciding what beauty school to attend, I did some research and came upon Tricoci’s website. Less than five minutes after submitting my name for more information I got a phone call from TUBC. The next day, I went in for a school tour and immediately registered to start on June 24th. Right now I am about eight weeks into the cosmetology program, and I absolutely love it! There has definitely been some ups and downs, but it has been some of the best weeks of my life. My classmates and I have become really close, and I’m really grateful for the support that they provide throughout this learning experience.
Some people may think that cutting hair and dying hair can’t possibly be that hard. Well, I am here to tell everyone that it definitely is harder than it looks. The first haircut I ever did was a disaster! It took me about 3 hours to do and I was exhausted afterwards. But now, haircuts have become second nature to me. Practice makes perfect. I still have a lot to learn and I am really looking forward to what TUBC will be teaching me in the months ahead. There will be more for me to write in the weeks and months ahead, but for now I am going to leave with a quote from the great Yoda: “Do or do not, there is no try.”
