So after 12 weeks of essentials I am finally on the floor! I didn’t think I was that nervous for my first couple clients but once I got that first guest traveler my mind went blank! And I couldn’t even think of what I needed to do first, was I supposed to have them sign something? How many times do I shampoo again? Many thoughts and questions went through my head as I tried to fake that I knew everything. Luckily for me there are some very helpful people on the floor that helped me out! I couldn’t have gotten through it alone! Well I might have gotten through it but I would have stumbled through the entire process.
ONE THING I’VE LEARNED ABOUT GOING TO SCHOOL IS YOU CAN’T ALWAYS DO IT ALONE.
And since we can’t let the client know how scared and unsure we are we must fake it till we make it! Another important thing to remember while in school is to ask a lot of questions! Because once I get out of school I won’t have a lot of people to ask questions to. My mom has also been a great help in my learning process. She used to be a cosmetologist so she has helped me to perfect my cuts while at home.
Especially my men’s cuts. So just remember there is always someone there to help! Also something I have learned this first week on the floor is to trust myself, I know more than I think I do! So in conclusion I learned to always ask questions, there is always someone there for me and I need to trust myself!
